Why support Foods Resource Bank?

For those just beginning to get involved with FRB and those considering increasing your involvement I will try to explain why I, as a farm partner, believe this is one of the most worthwhile charities you can help.
First of all it is easy, pledge your land if you are a producer (amount of acres up to you), pledge your support of the crops produced on that land if you are involved with a cooperating church (again amount of acres or portion up to you), donate directly on the website http://www.foodsresourcebank.com/donate , or contact your local growing project http://www.foodsresourcebank.com/growing-projects-summary and offer your help.  You can search by state if not in the Somonauk or Earlville area growing project's area.
Second it is fun.  We just held our Harvest celebration and continue to enjoy getting together as a family of Christians for combine rides, educational displays, worship, and a meal.
Third together as we are having fun we can raise more money to support overseas projects.  At this years harvest celebration we auctioned 34 homemade pies for $5,000.00 (who would of thought you can help the hungry and have your pie to?), Held a raffle for processed beef from a farm partners feedlot collecting another $2,750.00, fed 500 guests to our event with a pig roast collecting $3,454.00 in donations, and received some matching funds from Thrivent Financial www.thrivent.com .  The days total $13,000.00
Forth and the real reason Why to support FRB  is to help others.  We are blessed with many gifts from God to share with others, as we reach out to help them they also reach out to their neighbors.  Paying it forward has been a cornerstone in faith. That $13,000.00 was forwarded to an overseas project in Honduras reaching out to 3,435 people to improve their cropping systems, resources, and diets.   Visit http://frb.force.com//servlet/servlet.FileDownload?file=00PA00000011eFZMAY for a report on what they are accomplishing there, and http://www.foodsresourcebank.com/programs_and_projects/1/a0bA0000000TwREIA0 for links to pictures.
Both the Somonauk and Earville projects pool their resources to host the Harvest Celebration the $13,000.00 raised at that event is in addition to the amounts raised by each organization on their own and they each support other projects individually.  I will forward those numbers when they finish with collections on a later post.
P.S. if some of our members want me to include their pictures from the harvest celebration e mail them to me at deanlundeen@gmail.com the next post will have pic.s of that event.
