updates

Tsunami Update.  I have read that in the region of the reactor disaster local farmers have been told not to raise rice because it is a long season crop and more likely to take up more radiation.  The power shortages have also led to frozen food supplies in warehouses to spoil.  It will be months before all ramifications will be accounted for.  Continue to keep them in your prayers.
Chili Cook Off at St. Marks Update.  They raised about $1,500 for FRB and had about 15 entries.  Lots of fun in the process.  They were the answer to someones prayers.
Market update.  Corn has went up and then down 40 cents a bushel this past week in July CBOT prices.  Soybeans also lower.  China has reported to have cancelled some deliveries, Harvest in South America approaching, and planting progress in the U.S. contributing factors.
Farm Update.  Some in the area began to plant corn, many are working fields in anticipation of planting soon.  Just received a little rain with forecast of more tonight.  When the fields dry a bit and warm up it will be full throttle on planting for everyone. My wheat has some thin spots and I will destroy15- 20% of it and plant more corn.  At these prices a 80% yield of wheat is not good enough when I can take a chance on a full corn crop.
Garden Update.  Potatoes, onions, lettuce, and peas planted outside.  Peppers, herbs, and tomatoes started inside.  It is not to late to do either one at your place.  My granddaughter likes edamane beans so I am going to plant them this year.  They are a type of soybean.  Rule of thumb to remember -plant crops that have their growing point underground early- like potatoes, onions, peas they can frost off at the ground level and start again.
