Thank God for rain

Thank God for rain.  Since my last post I have received 4 inches of rain.  This came at the most critical time as temps. have been high in the 90's and 80's at night.  Although some areas of corn production have not been as fortunate, the majority has seen rain.  That is why we are called the "corn belt" the mid west weather patterns give us very good chances of rain during the growing months of April through September.  There will always be areas that have yield reductions from too little or to much rain but we can produce 40% of the worlds corn approximately 12 billion bushels.
On the right is a picture of a man and his crops in Kenya.  He is not as fortunate as we are, he must be able to store water for use in growing his crops after seasonal rains stop.  Many farmers like him need to dig large dry basins with hand equipment hopeing to retain spring rains for use all summer.  We support "FOODS RESOURCE BANK" and these projects because it make a real difference in the lives of many people.  Please click on the picture of that farmer in Kenya for a slide show illustrating how hard they work to obtain water and remember to appreciate the what God has provided for us.

The local growing project  will be hosting a potluck and presentation about this trip on Sunday, August 21st at St. John's Lutheran Church in Somonauk.  The potluck dinner will begin at 5:00; table service, iced tea, lemonade, water, and coffee will be provided. If you wish to join us for just the presentation, we plan to begin that at about 6:00.  Those of us in the area can learn from the observations and pictures of these projects presented by Jerry and Toni Lundeen as they cover highlights of their trip earlier this year.  My slide show is only to get your interest.  Come and enjoy the fellowship, food and information.
