A Christian response to World Hunger

A Growing Project by Foods Resource Bank

Somonauk Area Project Somonauk Area Project
Salem Lutheran Church, Cooperating Church in project

How a Growing Project works
The Farmer donates the use of a portion of his land. He plants the crop, cares for it, and harvests it.
After harvest, he sells the crop and the proceeds go to our local Foods Resource Bank account.

The Rural Churches help take some of the burden off the farmer by paying him cash rent of $200 per acre.
The Rural Church is also instrumental in helping with the The planning of the Harvest Celebration. Help will also be needed for serving the Harvest Meal, assisting with traffic and people flow, and entertainment events, such as children’s games.

The Urban Church(es) help to cover some of the farmer’s costs of growing the crop by paying for the input costs, such as seed, fertilizer and fuel. This will be $500 per acre.
Other help is needed for such things as making posters, taking pictures, placing directional signs, finding vendors or suppliers willing to donate food, cups, plates, snack chips, and a whole host of things.

Representatives from all the groups will get together to decide where the money we generate will go. We can choose to go through Resource Bank as a general donation. We can choose to go through an approved agency, like Lutheran World Relief. We can choose to fund a project that has received approval from Foods
Resource Bank.

The money we raise may be matched dollar for dollar. There are NO Administration costs taken out of the money we raise!
