agriculture products react to Japan disaster

Grain and Livestock prices have been down since the quake and tsunami but are going up today.  Events are not stable in Japan yet as we are all concerned about their nuclear reactors.  Millions of people are hungry, in need of medical attention, and housing.  Supplies are needed everywhere and transportation is compromised.  Water, medicine, and people are of course the first priority.  Japan is a large customer of the U.S. in exports of our grain and meat products.  Because transportation is unsure exporters do not know how much Japan is going to buy in the short term.  The huge snowfall early this year had local stores running out of milk and eggs, if the customer is unable to buy eggs one day they will not buy twice as many the next day, this limit's how much the store can sell.  Now multiply that times a million or so customers in Japan (I assume some regions are not affected).  That is one reason for the price decline we have seen.
That shows how interconnected we all are.  The most important thing is to do what we can today to act as Christians in reaching out to help.  Contact your church to see what they are doing to help and join in and of course pray for them.
