The rain just sent me inside. When is the last time that has happened?
Just started to rain and we should get about 1/4 inch tonight. I have taken down my rain gauge but we have received several good rains beginning with the one that fell during service at the Harvest Celebration worship service. Next time we are in a drought we need to hold a planting celebration if that is what it takes to start rain. Just kidding, but really it does help to have us all together in prayer. I am feeling much better about normal weather next year now that we can get some moisture into the ground. I just decided to leave the cornstalks undisturbed where I am going to plant soybeans next spring in hopes to hold more snowfall to add to the moisture levels.
Most long range weather models have not quite taken out the risk of a longer lasting drought so keep us in your prayers. Especially the farmers that have been hit the hardest.
Most of the crops in the area will be finished harvesting ahead of schedule and I may be done early next week. My corn is doing better than expected and there are minimal drying costs. The warm dry weather pushed maturity ahead of schedule allowing harvest and field operations to start early.
Thank you to all that helped with the Celebration and those who braved the weather to join us. We all had a great time. Special thanks to the Larson family for being hosts.
Serving together, Dean
